INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE MANAGEMENT

International Institute of Horticulture Management (IIHM) is an initiative of the Ecumenical Christian Centre (ECC ) and is located in its campus in Whitefield, Bangalore . IIHM is a manifestation of ECC's commitment to ecology and the preservation of planet Earth. It also aims at educating young men and women in scientific management of horticulture crops and thereby increase production manifold. This training programme is organized at a time when the Nation has set a target of doubling its horticultural production within the next 10 years.

IIHM offers a 15-day intensive Horticulture Management course both theoretical and practical

The course will specifically address the following areas:

Technology related to growing fruits and vegetables.

Vegetable gardening

Element of Floriculture and cut flowers

Gardening –Indoor and outdoor

Medicinal and Aromatic plants

Spice crops

Commercial crops

Application of biotechnology in horticulture

Irrigation and fertigation technology

Protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers (greenhouse)

Machinery for horticultural production

Contract farming and linkages

Dry land crops and management

Sericulture and economics

Management of successful farms

Financing by NABARD and Banks

Lecture classes will be followed by field visits both within the campus and to premium farms/plantations.

The course is residential and each batch of the course will have an intake of 30 participants.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

The course is intended for those who are interested in the development of horticulture, either for profit or as a hobby.

Companies, banks, commodity boards, academic institutions, government's agriculture and horticulture departments, industrial units, planters, voluntary agencies, and infrastructure developers including landscape and architect firms may send their nominees for attending this valuable programme.

Men, women and youth from India and abroad are encouraged to participate.

THE CAMPUS

The ECC campus in Whitefield is a 29-acre parcel of greens dotted with training and residential facilities with a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Mango, Chikoo (sapota), grapes, jack fruit, banana, papaya, guava, aonla (Indian gooseberry), medicinal and aromatic plants,jamun and woodapple are some of the easily identifiable ones. Coffee, coconut, oilpalm and cashew trees are also found.

The pride of the campus is the flowering trees with well-laid out lawn. It is this sprawling acreage and its flora that will act as the laboratory for the participants.

The campus has adequate boarding and lodging facilities for 100 people at a time. Infrastructure includes conference hall, seminar/class rooms, library, refectory and a communication center.

HOW TO REACH IIHM?

IIHM is located in ECC campus about 50 kms from Bangalore international Airport, 26 kms from Bangalore City , 2.5 kms from ITPL and 1 km from Whitefield Jn.

Mr.V.K. Abraham, Director, Institute of Plantation and Horticulture Management, Bangalore is the Dean of the institute. He was Managing Director of public sector companies for many years and a recipient of National Award in Horticulture from President of India.

MANAGEMENT SUPPORT

The Board of Management of the ecumenical Christian Centre has fully endorsed this programme and the officers of the Centre will also act as the officers of the Institute.

REGISTRATION AND COURSE FEE

Registration forms are available from the office on request and should be duly filled in and sent with the required fee. The last date for submission of completed forms will be 15 days prior to the commencement of each batch.

Course fee is Rs. 15,000 for participants of Indian origin and US $ 750 for foreign nationals. This includes accommodation, food and local transport. Institutions sponsoring more than two candidates at a time may seek a concession.

Fee once remitted cannot be refunded. If for any valid reason, the applicant/sponsored candidate cannot attend the programme, a substitute may be nominated.

All payments must be made through demand drafts drawn in favour of ‘Ecumenical Christian centre' payable at Bangalore .

Faculty: Eminent speakers will give lectures on each topic.

About the Institute (IIHM)
The Institute will be conducting regular training programmes on Horticulture Crops covering Fruits & Vegetables.  Floriculture, Medicinal & Aromatic Crops, Plantation Crops, Commercial Crops & Spices.
The goals of the Present Training Programme are to provide an in-depth knowledge on Precision Farming, Precision Farming Technologies can be adopted to maximize productivity and to economise the high cost of production.  Tamil Nadu University of Agriculture Sciences has the Credit of implementing successful Precision Farming Projects in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri Districts of Tamil Nadu.  A study visit will be arranged to Krishnagiri district to see the fruits of Precision Farming.
 
Faculty:  Eminent speakers will give lectures on Precision  Farming.

Registration & Course Fee :  Course fee is Rs. 6000 for Indian participants and US $ 300 for foreign participants.  The fees include accommodation, food, and study tours expenses etc.  Fees may be paid by demand draft in favour of  ‘Ecumenical Christian Centre’  payable at Bangalore before the commencement of course.
